15 Activities in the Phoenix Metro Area
Are you looking for a fun way to entertain your family while in town or a local looking for something fun to do? Well you have come to the right place. I have two kids and all my friends know that we are a very active family. I am constantly being asked at the gym, texts/emails from friends and family, etc what are my suggestions for kid/family friendly activities in the area. Well, I finally had the time to compile the following 15 activities in the Phoenix Metro Area. Get ready to have a good time!
First, I would highly recommend a Pogo Pass for your entire family (if you live in Arizona, Texas & Nevada). Lets start with one of my favorite activities:
1. Hiking: (All trails are around 3 miles or under)
- San Tan Regional Park (SanTan Valley/Queen Creek Area):
- Little Leaf Trail or Goldmine trail (can lead up a hill but a good challenge for kids)
- Lost Dutchman in Superstition Mountains (Apache Junction Area):
- Hieroglyphic Trail or Treasure Loop Trail
- Hieroglyphic Trail or Treasure Loop Trail
- Usery Mountain (Mesa)
- Wind Cave Trail
- Papago Park (Tempe)
- Hole in the Rock
I also recommend bringing a kids backpack while hiking with kids. It gets very hot in the valley, bring plenty of water & snacks during your hike. We have the same ones for our kids. It fits a snack and plenty of water. My kids also love these shoes
2. Family Bike Ride
We have the perfect weather and tons of trails. Look up trail systems in your area. Here are some links too:
3. Parks
Every neighborhood has great parks. Some of our favorites are in the Gilbert/Queen Creek/Chandler Area are:
- Desert Mountain: Queen Creek: Great bike ride to this one too
- Freestone: Gilbert (also has splashpad)
- Discovery: Gilbert (Great picnic areas)
- Orange Monster (Mesa: EastMark neighborhood)
- The Ranch House Clubhouse, Carriage House & Community Park and The Barn & Trailside Community Park (Great bike rides connects both park within Power Ranch neighborhood)
- Riverview Park (Tempe: aka Cubs Stadium Park)
- Tumbleweed (Chandler)
4. *Phoenix Zoo
They currently have a Dinosaurs in the Desert that is a must see. If your in town over the holidays Zoo lights is an absolute must too.
5. Phoenix Children’s Museum
Expansive museum with 300-plus interactive play areas for babies to kids up to age 15.
6. AZ Science Center
During the hot summer months, we can swim outside or have indoor fun. Here are my top suggestions on how to keep your family sane during 110 degree temperatures.
7. Pools:
Mesquite Groves Park or Perry High School Pool
8. Trampoline Park
*AZ Airtime, Jump Street, Krazy Air, Extreme Air, KTR
9. Indoor Park/Entertainment
Makutus Island, Urban Jungle, *Fat Cats, BounceU
10. Splash Pads
Queen Creek, San Tan Mall, Espee Park, EastMark, Tempe MarketPlace
11. Baseball Game
Spring Training games (March) or the *AZ Diamondbacks
12. AZ Cardinals Football game

13. AZ Coyotes Hockey
14. Local Farms: Vertuccio or Schnepf Farms
Both are a great outing for families. They also have specials during Halloween and other holidays.
15. OdySea Aquarium and Butterfly Wonderland (Next to each other)
